When we don’t move properly, movement is harmful and will lead to injury and pain. When we move properly (joints are centrated, muscles are coordinated, and stability is optimal), movement is healthy. Injury can occur from a single macro-trauma stress, but more commonly occurs from cumulative micro-trauma stress.ĭNS is a rehabilitation approach which stimulates movement control centers in our brain to allow our bodies to move properly. This is the result of movement without proper stabilization. Pain is the result of tissue failure, which occurs when stress exceeds tissue tolerance. Precise patterns of movement are programmed in our brains and are the same for everyone however the quality of movement varies in each of us. This ‘motor control’ is largely established during the first critical years of life. DNS is based on principles of developmental kinesiology (how our movement patterns develop as we mature from birth to an upright and stable posture). The spinal stabilizing system automatically activates prior to purposeful movement, to protect the spine and extremities. This new rehabilitation approach is called Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS).ĭNS is a method of assessment, treatment, and exercise for activation of the Integrated Stabilizing System of the Spine. Fowler’s mentor in Prague, has organized the next generation of clinical protocols designed to restore and stabilize locomotor function (movement). Prague is the premier site for the study of Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization
